The Brief
The brief was to deliver an unforgettable opera experience in the heart of the Australian Outback, where the environment is raw, the expectations are high, and every detail matters. We were engaged by Opera Queensland to elevate the atmosphere of each unique location with high-quality audio and lighting, suitable for remote conditions.
Solution
Our team journeyed into the Outback, bringing premium gear and experienced crew for the week-long festival held in Winton and Longreach in Outback Queensland.
We worked across multiple sites to help bring the festival to life, supporting standout events such as the Festival Opening, Dark Sky Serenade, Are you Lonesome Tonight, Cultural Conversations, Long Lunch, Singing in the Night and the Opera Ball.
Headlining the festival was Grammy Award-winning, Oscar nominated soprano Sumi Jo, whose performance under the open sky was a true highlight. Our L-Acoustics audio system ensured every note was heard with clarity, no matter where you were seated.
Lighting and rigging were tailored to suit each location. We used a combination of Martin Mac Aura and Quantum’s, Claypaky Sharpy’s, LED Fusion Pars and Apollo fixtures. Resulting in clean, dynamic lighting that elevated the performances without overpowering the natural beauty of the Outback.
Outcome
Despite the challenges of working in a remote, outdoor environment, our team delivered seamless technical production, helping to create an unforgettable audience experience. In the Outback it’s all about impact, and we delivered. Crisp audio, flawless lighting, and a little help from the Outback Sky.
