The Brief
In 2021 during the handover ceremony at Tokyo Olympics, we started working with the French ceremonies team and making the connection for their 2024 games. We kept in communication with them, and in tandem we grew a relationship and partnership with the likely local audio supplier Dushow. The Organising Committee engaged the consortium Paname 24 to produce their opening ceremonies for the Olympic and Paralympic Games ceremonies, and we kept in frequent communication about our previous experience, and any technical challenges they were facing that we could help with. We also created a strong bond with their spectrum management team who were aware of our experience in this area.
Solution
After many meetings online and in person, it was becoming difficult to see a path where they would utilise our expertise and services. The audio systems were being designed in house by an all Parisien team, and their tenders were being released directly to our partner company, mainly for the purposes of equip ment rental to fulfill Paname 24’s designs.
Much to our surprise after one last effort communicating some areas we could assist, the Spectrum team and Paname 24 technical team engaged with us seeking support with some cast monitoring systems they had not yet solved or procured. We set to work in February 2024 feverishly designing and procuring some custom FM systems to suit the 1700 cast members positioned down the 7km site. Our bespoke long range IEM systems were also added, in the order of 400 receivers with transmitting from our custom designed redundant amplifiers.
Outcome
It goes to show that in these cases, persistence of communication of prior experiences is key – and offering support and solutions carries its weight in spades. We had all but given up on the job, yet one last attempt saw us signing a substantial contract for bespoke audio solutions.
