Harcourts NZ Annual Conference

The Brief

Over 1000 real estate agents from around New Zealand arrived in Wellington for the Harcourts New Zealand Annual Conference. NW Group being the preferred technical supplier for Venues Wellington worked as a team to deliver the event.

Solution

One-half of the TSB Bank Arena was transformed into a purpose-built raked auditorium for 1,000 delegates. The other half of the arena was utilised for exhibition and catering with more than 35 trade stands. The conference also had a substantial breakout requirement which changed in size and set up throughout the conference.

The absolute flexibility and vision of Venues Wellington and partners was highlighted again on the final day of the conference when TSB Bank Arena and Auditorium (Shed 6) were transformed into a spectacular venue for pre-dinner drinks and dinner for 1,000 people, all achieved in less than four hours.

Outcome

The Harcourts conference was a great success. Delegates enjoyed the set up of the conference and the organisers were happy with how the event turned out.

“We enjoyed a great conference in a wonderful city. A big thanks to WREDA’s team who helped us pull off a wonderful event, and create memories which will linger long in the minds of our delegates.”
Annah Duncan – Harcourts’ National Event Manager.

“It was one of the most extensive technical setups we’ve ever done for a conference in Wellington. We worked hard to create something unique, yet still practical for Harcourts. We were delighted with the results.”
Tom O’Sullivan – NW Group Account Manager.

Halberg Trust

The Brief

To provide full production equipment & personnel for the live broadcast event, a Black Tie Gala Dinner for 1200 people at Spark Arena, Auckland.

Solution

Oceania Productions provided Lighting, Audio and Vision systems for the awards.

Lighting designer Simon Garrett’s goal is always to make the live event ‘look’ as close as possible to the broadcasted event. He also thinks it’s very important to make the guests look and therefore feel good from the red carpet to the stage. He assumes they will review the show and look critically at the people.

Garrett considers tungsten a natural choice for both tables, stage and lecterns which means a 3000k white balance. Oceania have used ETC’s revolutions for this task for some years and they work very well. Typically to balance stage with audience, Garrett would use a combination of tungsten softs and profiles with gobo’s adding a layer of moving light textures for depth and visual interest.

This time Oceania cut the softs by half and added a layer of RGBAW fixed LED wash as a base to adjust on the fly. New GLP X4L wash units were added to cover the audience near the stage with a gobo and beam wash from sixty-five 280R Pointe generics over the rear half of the audience. These provided texture and hype looks and the layering and shifts of colour worked well in the long shots while saving 6 hours from the normal focus time.

Programmer Jason Steele did some great work with the cameras on the live show look while Garrett works the floor, foyers and overall package. Vision at the event was a combination of projection and 3.9mm LED screens. Oceania ran projectors at 5500k as a compromise between looking warm live and blue in the broadcast. The team did a lot of work on the LED to get the green under control with the gold Halberg graphic content.

Oceania work closely on the overall look with both the Sky TV creative team and the broadcast partner OSB. Rob Douglas, Supervising Director from Sky TV said, “I spend a bit of time in CCU, and as soon as we have cameras, we define the exposure window early making sure we are on the same page visually and refining as we go. The key is to not chase each other’s adjustments. While Jason actually runs the gig, I am in a position to float a little and continue direct contact with the production and broadcast team in the truck.”

Audio Designer, Nick Maddren was given a brief to deliver clean audio for both the live audience and television. This year Oceania used Array Processing on the D&B J series system. Maddren understands that if we were to have issues of getting a good amount of volume in the room it would become very easy to make the TV sound very roomy or worse have a constant ring in the TV audio. By Array Processing the D&B system Oceania are able to deliver more even coverage allowing much better gain before feedback.

Outcome

Sky TV has worked closely with Oceania on various events over the years.

“In the case of the Halbergs in particular we work closely with Simon Garrett who provides us with consistently great service. Every year he comes up with new ways of making the product better and adapts the overall look accordingly with what we are trying to achieve. I’m always very impressed by the way Oceania always try to use new technology/gear when they can, they are also very good at overcoming challenges and using creative solutions; it makes producing these  kind of events so much easier when you know that there are people like the Oceania guys who have got your back and are working alongside you to create a top quality product.” – Rob Douglas, Supervising Producer, Sky TV

Melbourne Music Week

The Brief

Norwest Productions were appointed by City of Melbourne to provide audio, staging and lighting for Melbourne Music Week 2017. Melbourne Music Week showcases local and international artists on pop up stages and venues situated around the city.

Melbourne Music Week is renowned for its dynamic use of creative space and this year did not disappoint with the main hub traditionally being used as a place of worship! Norwest Productions were tasked with transforming St Paul’s Cathedral and its carpark into a live music setting, while also allowing for continued religious services including Eucharist, an ordination and a wedding ceremony.

Solution

Equipment had to be loaded in and out of the Cathedral four times throughout the duration of the week due to scheduled events out of our control. Norwest Productions managed this challenge well by ensuring close communication with the event organisers and venue staff.

Norwest Productions created an exciting and bespoke LED-GO lighting design for both stages, enhancing the unique characteristics of the venue. This alongside our prestigious audio production provided the perfect ambiance for the event.

Outcome

The client was very happy with our product and service. Following on from the event, our client reached out to us and provided praise and thanks for our production delivery.

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you and what a pleasure it was to work with you and the crew, we really couldn’t have done it without you – absolute event hero”.

Rio Tinto AGM

The Brief

In 2016 Rio Tinto began working with Haycom to deliver a faultless AGM experience for their Executive Board and shareholders. The 2017 event in Sydney presented an opportunity to re-work the event but still deliver a high level of technical production, stage set, head table construction and installation, collateral design/production/registration and signage.

Solution

Haycom redesigned and replaced the stage set to a new lightweight modular set with printed vinyl inserts. This innovative redesign, resulted not only in a much better production result, but also made it more time efficient to install. The stage set was made in a lightweight design which breaks down into smaller pieces, saving on transport and storage, year on year.

Live vision and audio feeds were provided from the main meeting room to the holding area and presentation room for media representatives to observe the meeting and engage in post event Q&A interviews. Media splits were provided to allow for live coverage of the meeting enabling broadcasting of the results to the general public.

Outcome

The client’s UK counterpart referred to us as the best production team they have worked with worldwide!

“Thanks again to your team for a fantastic show last week. Once again, your production was seamless. And your ability to cope with two or three very late curve balls from your client was really very impressive. Feedback from everyone, including the chairman, has been excellent.”

Device Technologies MEGA Shoulder Conference

The Brief

Device Technologies is a leading, established distributor of quality and advanced medical equipment. The purpose of the event was educational, a wide range of guest speakers were invited to present, educate and demonstrate. The event allowed 140 surgeons to gain knowledge in the latest techniques using new equipment via live demonstrations.

Haycom were appointed to provide the total audio-visual solution within the plenary, reception and operating theatre. Device Technologies required a seamless experience for their presenters and audience. The technical solution had to match their company brand philosophy and guidelines.

Solution

The event held at Royal North Shore Hospital, was the first time the hospital had hosted an event so complex. Due to NSW law, there was a need for camera feeds to broadcast the shoulder procedures using the new instruments. This was performed on cadavers streamed from the operating theatre for an audience in the main auditorium.

To ensure the live video feeds accurately recorded the procedures, Haycom ran multiple cameras, installed camera lighting, vision preview monitors, audio and extensive communication equipment. Live product demonstrations were also provided from the plenary into a large classroom.

All of the signage for the event was installed and produced by Haycom in both digital and printed format to match the clients branding and mask unsightly areas.

Outcome

In collaboration with the Device Technologies team, Haycom was able to meet the brief and overcome challenges for all key stakeholders.

Our client provided us with some feedback of the services we provided and they seemed to be pretty happy…

“We can’t thank you and your team enough for the time and effort put into making MEGA Shoulder such a success. The feedback has been absolutely positive and we are so extremely happy with how the event worked out. We really enjoyed working with the Haycom team!”
